Here we are at the start of 2015!
As I’ve been standing in my own new year’s threshold, and teaching the “Create Your 2015” workshop, I’m looking at 2 seeming opposite truths:
- We don’t always get everything we want.
- We can manifest anything. Ask and you shall receive!
So how can these both be true?
Maybe it’s having a 2 year old and realizing the last 2 years were not about “me.” Maybe it’s just getting older and seeing the cycles in my life so far, or working with thousands of people who were usually disappointed with some area of their lives.
One of my yoga teachers described it beautifully a few months back. She said her life was like a puzzle– some parts fully formed, some parts half formed, and some parts still unknown. While so many of us “spiritual” folks talk about “having it all,” she realized that would actually be boring, with nothing left to do. Like, “Ok, now what?”
I believe we are here in the body, on earth so that we can learn and grow. I believe we are each a pure, infinite spirit, and that we consciously choose limitations so we can evolve.
Just sitting in meditation, we bliss out– but we don’t learn much about relationships or money or raising kids, for example. In-between lifetimes, we can see from a bigger perspective. But we need our bodies and our challenges to move from knowing and being to full mastery. Having them does not mean we’re flawed; it means we’re blessed to be awakening and growing.
Of course, we can call in our lessons with as much grace as possible, and we can learn to respond with more amusement and less resistance. But if it still gets hard, I remind myself and others that we are never given anything we cannot handle.
Sometimes, we don’t get what we want because we really don’t know what’s best. We think we do, but our infinite souls and the loving Universe often laugh in our faces and throw us curveballs. Eventually we love and appreciate them, but at first sometimes we kick and scream, whine and complain or in any case, throw up our arms in bewilderment.
As for our ability to manifest anything…
As I’ve gotten older, I am also aware of why some of my past dreams did not happen. Besides the times where my soul had a better plan, there were plenty of times where I just wasn’t fully behind my own creation.
I was too wimpy about it. I was afraid it wouldn’t happen and my fear spoke louder than my desire. I lacked trust in my own ability or I devalued my own heart or truth.
I’ve learned that no amount of affirmations or visualizations will work if my emotions aren’t aligned with my success. I’ve also learned the importance of taking inspired, consistent ACTION.
In the past, I visualized and affirmed and thought it would show up at my door. It didn’t. Well, my now-husband actually DID show up at my house… but that was after I had already taken plenty of action in that arena… another story. 🙂
There is a difference between actions taken from a sense of pressure to achieve something, and actions we feel moved to take. In my experience, once I align my emotions, I feel an overflowing sense of joy about taking actions. Occasionally, I also feel uncomfortable or stretched, but it still comes from a feeling of being moved from within rather than feeling like it’s just me trying to push the world around.
I received an energy reading and healing many summers ago, right before I started to take psychic development classes myself. At the time, I was just out of grad school and I was thinking of traveling to Europe. I was also wondering what to do for work.
The reader was very practical. I felt I couldn’t look for a job because of this possible trip, and she pointed out otherwise. She reminded me that I could go talk to potential employers about setting up something for the fall. At the time, I didn’t have enough life experience to realize things take time. I was all in my head– or above my head– about it!
When I told her about the trip she said, “put a grounding cord on it, and decide it’s going to happen.” That was an a-ha. I hadn’t realized I could decide.
Somehow I had been waiting for a “sign” about whether I “should” go… even thinking she would give me the sign. Well, she did, and it was an empowering lesson that has stuck with me since.
I ended up teaching kids creativity classes and Aikido (martial arts). Talk about needing my grounding! When I went in with my class outline, I often didn’t look at it and improvised, but the fact that I had it seemed to change something and the kids and I were all calm. When I didn’t have it, thinking I usually improvised anyway, kids were absent or late or all over the place!
In addition to taking action and aligning our emotions, there is a way to energetically ground an event or desire, which I teach in the upcoming “Awaken Your Healing Energy” Program. I’d like to share it as my gift to you…
TRY THIS
- Pick something you’d like to see manifest in your life– for example a job, relationship, home, or new state of health.
- Sit with your feet on the floor and your eyes closed, and notice your body and breath. Soften on the exhale and sit a little taller on the inhale.
- Visualize a bright, clear and shiny bubble a few feet out in front of you.
- Allow a picture of your desired goal to show up in the bubble. See yourself in the scene, and feel it as if it’s happening now. Feel your joy, your excitement, your peace, your vitality, or whatever it is.
- Now, connect the bubble to the very center of the earth by creating a tree trunk, waterfall, beam of light, or other “grounding cord”. Anchor your vision and decide that it’s happening now, in perfect timing.
- Enjoy this feeling as long as you’d like, then let your bubble dissolve in a burst of light and open your eyes.
